The Black Malva Shroud

This burial shroud was left naturally bleached by the sea but paired with lovely silk ties, coloured using black malva flowers — large blossoms known for producing blue and purple tones through natural dyeing.

The result is a creamy cotton base with blue floral silk ties.

Plants Used in This Shroud

The silk ties were eco-printed using a traditional botanical process with:

• Black Malva flower — a flowering plant long used in natural dyeing to produce black/blue/purple tones
• Natural plant tannins to help the fibre receive and hold the colour

Black malva flowers are known for their striking colour variations, creating unique tones rarely found in nature.

The Botanical Dyeing Process

The fabric remained in its naturally bleached state and was paired with silk ties wrapped and steamed with black malva flower buds, allowing the plant pigments to develop naturally.

Because natural dyes respond to water, fibre, and temperature, the final colour emerges gradually — never forced, never identical.

No synthetic dyes are used.
No chemical finishes are applied.
The fabric remains fully biodegradable.

• A biodegradable absorbent liner made from natural cotton and hemp fleece
• A cloth storage bag for safe, breathable storage
• A small bottle of all-natural botanical fabric freshening spray

The liner is placed beneath the body inside the shroud and provides gentle, natural absorption when needed.
It contains no synthetic materials and will fully biodegrade in the soil.
