One-of-a-Kind Beauty, Grown by Nature

This burial shroud was coloured slowly using plant-based dyes, allowing time and nature to shape the final tone.
The result is a soft apricot hue — warm, grounded, and gently reminiscent of sun-dried clay and ripened fruit.

For many families, choosing a natural shroud is an act of intention — a way to return gently to the earth, wrapped in materials that honour both the body and the land.

Each piece is prepared and dyed by hand, and no two will ever be exactly the same.

Plants Used in This Shroud

This shroud was dyed using a traditional botanical process with:

  • Black walnut — known for producing soft earthy browns and warm golden undertones
  • Madder root — one of the oldest natural dyes, historically used to create gentle reds and apricot tones
  • Gallnut tannin — used to help the fibre receive and hold the colour naturally

These plant materials create colours that feel calm, organic, and deeply connected to the natural world.

The Botanical Dyeing Process

The fabric was first prepared in a bath of natural tannins derived from gallnuts.
This step strengthens the fibre and allows the colour to bond deeply and permanently.

It was then lightly immersed in a dye bath of black walnut and madder, allowing the plant pigments to develop gradually and softly.

No synthetic dyes are used.
No chemical finishes are applied.
The fabric remains fully biodegradable.

This slow process honours traditional textile methods and supports a gentle return to the earth.

Included With Each Shroud

Each shroud is thoughtfully prepared as a complete, ready-to-use burial system.

Included with your purchase:

  • A biodegradable absorbent liner made from natural cotton and hemp fleece
  • A cloth storage bag for safe, breathable storage
  • A small bottle of all-natural botanical fabric freshening spray

The liner is placed beneath the body inside the shroud and provides gentle, natural absorption when needed.
It contains no synthetic materials and will fully biodegrade in the soil.

Compatible with standard funeral home and home funeral practices.

Size

104 inches x 104 inches

This generous square size provides ample coverage for most adults and allows the body to be wrapped comfortably using a traditional fold-over method.

Colour

A soft apricot tone created from natural plant dyes.
Depending on the light, the colour may appear warm peach, pale clay, or sun-washed sand.

Subtle variations in colour are part of the natural dye process and are considered a mark of authenticity.
